Kelly's field trip

The second graders had their field trip out to Racoon River Park!  They were able to touch some animals-  cockroaches, salamander, millipede and feel some animal furs.  They also got to break open geodes and play in the sand.  The sun wasn't shining, but there was no rain!  Julie and I were able to sneak over to hang out with Kelly for a couple hours!

Dogs

There has been talk around our house for a few years about a dog.  Luke has always asked for one, and even though I knew it would be good for his boy soul the answer was always no way!

More recently Bryce and I had gone back and forth.  He wanted one, I didn't and vice versa.  He wants a big lab, I wanted something smaller and with a little less energy.

Some how I got connected to Hope Animal Rescue on FB.  I followed their posts about all the dogs they had rescued.  In Feb they sent out a request for families to foster puppies! I got the brilliant idea we shoudl do this.  It took some convincing but Bryce finally said yes. So we filled out the paper work, had a home visit, and finally we got this cute puppy Sadie!  She was a lab/beagle mix.

Sadie already had an adopted family, so we knew she would only be with us for 10 days.   Longest 10 days of my life :-)  She hated her kennel and when we put her in it to sleep at night she would howl.  So needless to say I didn't get much sleep for 10 days.  She also chewed on EVERYTHING!!!!!  Did I mention we had her in Feb.  So I froze every time I had to take her out to go potty!  The kids loved her and she was very sweet!

Fast forward a couple months.  Molly was getting ready for her birthday party and decided that instead of presents she wanted the kids to bring things for Hope Animal Shelter.  I was e-mailing Jenn and mentioned that we might like to foster a dog again.  She said I have this dog Karmel he needs a home.  I asked if we could meet him.  I am glad we did.  He was wild.  Julie was petrified- jumping on the table when the dog came near.   So he was out.  Jenn asked if we wanted to see a beagle.  Bryce didn't really want a beagle because of the howling.  But I said why not.  We met him and decided that if he didn't get adopted the next day we would foster him.

We picked him up on April 17th.  Beasley the beagle quickly became a part of our family.  We weren't quite ready for a dog of our own, but this dog was SO sweet.   One night I saw a picture of Beasley on HAR's FB page- he was ready for his forever home.  I got a pit in my stomach and new we needed to keep him.  Bryce and I "discussed" it and decided we should adopt Beasley.  So on Wed the 21st, he became ours.  Luke and Bryce decided we should change his name and finally decided on Buddy.  When I called the microchip company to transfer ownership, they asked me if my call was about Buddy the Beagle!  His previous name had been Buddy!!  He still is a great dog!  The kids love him, and he is like by Bryce and I!  He is my shadow going where ever I go!  Thankfully he sleeps through the night!    Welcome to the family Buddy!

Broken Collar Bone

My poor little Julie broker her collar bone on the afternoon of April 30th.

Earlier in the day she had successfully crossed the monkey bars by herself two times.  After her nap she was excited for me to come out and watch her do it again!  I stood back as she attempted to cross the bars.  She didn't get very far when things went terribly wrong.  Her hands started to slip and instead of dropping to the ground, she reached her feet out to the ladder as she fell.  This caused her to fall head first towards the ground.  She landed right on her shoulder.  I could tell by the cry that it wasn't good.   We called our doctor who was inside in his chair, and he confirmed my suspicions!

Poor girl keeps telling me I wish you would have been there to catch me.  Me too baby girl, me too!
